For the Casserole
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 3 medium yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
For the Layers
  • 2 cups grated Swiss cheese or Gruyère for a gourmet touch
  • 1 medium toasted baguette sliced
For the Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or fresh thyme

Method
 

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease your baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté the thinly sliced yellow onions until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Push the onions to the side, add the lean ground beef, and cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, dried thyme, and beef broth, then let simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Layer half of the toasted baguette slices in the baking dish, add half of the beef mixture, and half of the grated cheese. Repeat layers.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil for the last 5 minutes to let the cheese bubble and brown.
