Ingredients
  

Sauce
  • ¾ cup water for the sauce
  • ¼ cup soy sauce adds umami flavor
  • ¼ cup brown sugar for sweetness
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch for thickening
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest for flavor
Stir Fry
  • 1 pound ground turkey lean protein
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil for cooking
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets fresh
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds for topping
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions for freshness

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix ¾ cup water, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Stir well and bring it to a low boil.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together ¼ cup water and cornstarch until smooth. Slowly pour this into the saucepan, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in orange zest.
  3. Heat sesame oil in a large wok over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 3 minutes.
  4. Add ground turkey, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until golden and fully cooked through.
  5. Add broccoli florets and shredded carrots. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the veggies are tender.
  6. Reduce heat to low and pour the teriyaki sauce over the turkey and veggies. Simmer for a few minutes.
  7. Serve over a bed of steamed rice and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
