Cooking Steps
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey until it’s browned and crumbly. Drain any excess fat.
- Sauté the onion and garlic in the skillet for 3-4 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Spread the butter on one side of each slice of bread and place them buttered-side down on a baking sheet.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto each slice of bread, then top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 1-2 minutes for a crispy top.
- Remove from the oven, garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, slice each melt, and serve warm.
