Method
 

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Lay 4 strips of thick-cut bacon in the pan without overlapping. Cook for 6–8 minutes, flipping occasionally, until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  2. Toast 3 slices of bread until golden and crispy using a toaster or pan-fryer with a little butter or bacon fat for extra flavor.
  3. In a small bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise with 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard until well combined. Set aside.
  4. Slice the ripe tomato and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper to enhance its natural sweetness.
  5. Place one slice of toasted bread on a work surface. Spread a layer of the mayo-mustard mixture, then layer on turkey, lettuce, and tomato.
  6. Add the second slice of toasted bread on top. Spread more mayo mixture, then pile on ham (if using), crispy bacon, and cheese.
  7. Place the final slice of toasted bread on top. Optionally spread any remaining mayo mixture for extra flavor.
  8. Use toothpicks to hold the layers together, then slice the sandwich diagonally into quarters for easy handling.
